Betting on the video game industry proves to be a winning bet.

hóPlay was born in 2010 as the commitment to the video game industry of the AlhóndigaBilbao Culture&Leisure Centre. For almost the entire month of September, attendees who came to the exhibition were able to enjoy several ongoing activities, such as front covers of classic video games, the tuned up Xbox 360 show, and of course, a wide selection of commercial games of the three major console hardware manufacturers of the sector. Microsoft used the occasion to present the first Kinect as part of the introductory hóPlay events.

A total of 111 projects were presented in the last edition held in 2013, 30 more than the previous year from 12 different countries, from which 32 finalists were selected.

Five 5000€ prizes were given during the Award ceremony: best original idea, best gameplay, best graphics, best sound and best Basque game. This latter award is a further support to this growing sector in Euskadi, providing international projection to the best work project.

A classic winter night, emulating the mysterious scene of a video game, contrasted with the lights, passion and heat of the auditorium of AlhondigaBilbao, which procured a large enthusiastic crowd together with various developers, gamers, politicians, and even family who came to support candidates.

Finally, the award for best Basque game was awarded to: Umbra chronicles, from the Digipen Institute of Technology, specifically to the Red Monkeys team.
